On September 2, 1945, President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence – giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, affirming that Vietnam is an independent nation.
“Vietnam has the right to enjoy freedom and independence and in fact has become a free and independent country. The entire Vietnamese people are determined to put all their spirit and strength, life and wealth to uphold that freedom and independence.” (quoted from the Declaration of Independence).
– Since that moment, National Day has always been the most important day of the year for the Vietnamese people, the birthday of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam), marking an important milestone of the nation building and defense.
